Relocation / Tourism: Recreation
Located just 13 miles north of Forrest City is Arkansas' largest state park, Village
Creek. This 7,000-acre park has fully equipped cabins, campsites,
pavilions, playgrounds, multi-use fields, hiking trails and a visitor center. It is
also home to Lakes Dunn and Austell, a real treat for fishing enthusiasts with a
steady yield of big, Florida-strain largemouth bass. Since 1987, over 100 bass
weighing eight or more pounds have been caught in these lakes. And for those who might
be interested, educational programs on nature, the environment and local artistic,
music, and military battles (reenactments performed) are offered throughout the year. Parks
Forrest City is home to eight public parks, covering approximately 70 acres.
Tennis, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, swimming, and walking trails are
just some of the activities and facilities available to users. The largest
facility is the Forrest City Municipal Sports Complex, which consists of eight fields
for soccer, baseball, and softball. Baseball and softball programs are available for
children and adults during the summer months. Soccer for children is held in the Fall.
Over 1,000 individuals compete on over 70 different teams. The complex hosts
tournaments throughout the summer, drawing teams from all over the region.
One of the newest parks in St. Francis County is Colt Community Park,
a fenced-in community park with handicapped accessible equipment, picnic
tables and grill. Other areas of attraction are the Parkin
Archaeological State Park and National Forest, both of which are located
less than one hour's drive from Forrest City. Many of Arkansas' most
famous State Parks, as well as St. Francis National Forest, are located
within one hour's drive from Forrest City. These attractions are among
the best of what Arkansas has to offer its residents and are enjoyed by
young and old alike throughout the year.
All the ExtrasForrest City is also home to the St. Francis Co. Museum, located on the railroad
tracks downtown on Front Street, where the city originally began. Forrest City is also
home to two private country clubs, the Forrest City Country Club and Ridgecrest Club,
Inc. These clubs offer a variety of recreational activities from social events to golf,
tennis and swimming. Both country clubs accept reciprocation memberships so that you'll
be sure to enjoy the very best that both have to offer. Other local areas of interest
and recreation include the Broadway Cinema, which shows first-run movies, and the
Forrest City Public Library, which offers a variety of print, audio, and video
educational and entertainment materials. For sportsmen, we've got a sporting clays range nearby to test your
marksmanship. The woods in the Forrest City area and at the nearby state and national
wildlife management area provide the perfect environment for duck and whitetailed deer
as well as for many other types of game. home |
